Dr. Derek Barnes
Dr. Derek C. Barnes earned his undergraduate degree in biology from The Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. He then entered The Medical University of South Carolina, earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, placing a focus on cosmetic and family dentistry. He served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s school of dentistry and a member of several professional dental associations and societies, including: The Charlotte Dental Society, American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, Old North State Dental Society, AJ Williams Study Club N.C. Dental Society, and the Seattle Study Club. Dr. Barnes was also honored as a fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologist. In striving for excellence in aesthetic and restorative dentistry, he is a strong advocate of continuing education. He has completed many hours of advanced cosmetic, implant, and restorative courses to stay abreast with the modern innovations of today’s dentistry which he employs in his private practice. He has devoted several years to surgical dental implant placement education at the Triangle Dental Implant Institute and the Alabama Implant residency program. He completed a comprehensive Implant Residency Program. The residency program focused on sound implant and surgical practices.
Family and family time is very precious to Dr. Barnes. He is happily married to his lovely wife Natasha Barnes. Dr. Barnes has two beautiful young men, Derek II and Jordan. He is an avid fisherman and loves to charter boats to sport fish in the Gulf Stream. Dr. Barnes is also a private Pilot and flies airplanes as a hobby.
Dr. Barnes and his dental team enjoy observing the patient’s reaction when they discover their new beautiful smiles using veneers, tooth-colored fillings, crowns, bridges, and implants. He has also developed a reputation of performing all dental procedures as painlessly as possible. His office offers you a comfortable, relaxing, family environment that gives unhurried personal care and attention. He is an advocate of keeping his patients comfortable throughout their procedures.
